Agriturismo Sant'Egidio a Cortona

Agriturismo Sant'Egidio, located in the city of Cortona and magnificently positioned between Tuscany and Umbria, offers the chance to experience a vacation immersed in the nature that is found among our 1000 hectares of green space and enjoy an extraordinary view of the ancient Etruscan town that is not far from Trasimeno Lake and the Valdichiana Valley.

Our country house was built on top of the ruins of an ancient abbey that once belonged to Camaldolese monks. It was founded more than one thousand years ago and only the old small church - where Saint Francis once found shelter - has survived the ravages of time. Prior to the Camaldolese, the Romans ruled these lands and built an important road to connect Cortona with the rest of Umbria. That road remains visible and accessible even today.

With breathtaking 360° views of mountains and hills, this is the perfect location for those who are in search of peacefulness and relaxation. Although Agriturismo Sant'Egidio is nestled among green hills, it is just a few kilometers away from the city of Cortona which can be reached on foot with a breathtaking walk along the ancient Roman road. Our strategic position provides the perfect starting point for your one-day trips to enjoy the art and history found in the main cities of Tuscany and Umbria: Arezzo (35 km), Montepulciano (40 km), Siena (70 km), Perugia (60 km), Firenze (120 km) and Assisi (80 km). There are also a number of hiking trails that start off from our country house. The most popular one connects Cortona with several historic Franciscan sites and ends at the hermitage of La Verna, a spiritual retreat located in the province of Arezzo.

The owners directly manage the country house (since XVIII century) and in summer they live in the villa next to the agriturismo.
